The Guys.....
David Price - Tenor David is a sophomore music education major. He's been performing on stage since he was in the second grade. Although he's not majoring in music theatre, David stays heavily involved in the KU Men's Glee Club, Rock Chalk Review, and KU band. Within the past year in theatre, he's recently performed in his hometown, Salina, as Tony in West Side Story, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cinderella, and Smokey Joe's Cafe. David first started singing barbershop his sophomore year in high school.
Dylan Hilpman - Lead Lead Tenor Dylan Hilpman has lived in Lawrence Kansas his entire life and is now a 20 year old junior at K.U. majoring in Theatre and Voice. While attending the University he's performed leading roles in You Never Can Tell, The Rocky Horror Show, A Grand Night for Singing, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Romance/Romance. He has also appeared in Cabaret. Using these productions as the basis of calculation, statistically there is a 50% chance of seeing Dylan in women's clothing in an upcoming production. Fortunately, he will not be cross-dressing for Against the Grain*. In addition to barbershop music Dylan has a background singing vocal jazz, pop, rock and "legit" in various ensembles. *Subject to change without prior notice or consent of audience.
Johnathan Andrews - Baritone Jonathan Andrews is a recent graduate in Voice Performance from the University of Kansas. He hopes to continue a thriving career in many aspects of music, including singing and songwriting, and in fields as diverse as folk, soul, Baroque and chamber music, and last but definitely not least, Barbershop quartet. This is Jonathan's third quartet, with only non-professional experience in the previous two. Jonathan was born in Atlanta, GA, on August 20th. His family lives in Topeka, his home for more than 15 years. His parents are Jon and Carlotta Andrews, and he is happily married to Sira Andrews.
Shaun Whisler - Bass Shaun Whisler is a 2005 Graduate of KU with a BM in Voice Performance and is the founder of Against the Grain. Shaun brings the most barbershop experience to the quartet totalling 12 years. Shaun sang in a successful barbershop quartet in high school named The B Sharps who finished 3rd in the Kansas Harmony Explosion competition. In college, he briefly sang with Five is Right Out at KU and in 2000, went on to co-found Random Harmony. In Random Harmony's 3 years of existence, they premiered in America the English version of Kurt Weill's Seven Deadly Sins, sang on two KU Holiday Vespers, and went on to become 2003 Collegiate International Finalists. They ranked as high as 12th in the collegiate barbershop world. Besides barbershop, Shaun has had a successful high school and college career in opera and musical theatre holding roles at KU in operas such as The Mikado and Pirates of Penzance. Shaun made his 2003 debut at the Kansas City Lyric Opera in the show Rigoletto and his second show at the Lyric was La Cenerentola singing along side the Joyce Didonato. Shaun also sang at the Kansas City New Theatre Restaurant in the summer of 2002 in the show The Scarlett Pimpernel.
